@ghost, the best players don't allow tiny things to get to them, they don't worry about this and that. Ding went through loads of cues from different makers thinking his cue was wrong etc. It wasn't, it had just worn. So Stamford respliced and balanced it and bingo, he's back on that one to the world final. I doubt Selby will change from his Stamford either. Higgins had them TWs made which he has now binned. Ronnie has had a few Parris cues, he gets on with it. What they've all realised is that the cue is minor once you've got a good one, compared to the head and technique. Look at Mags, demons aplenty in his head, frustration at the table. Lo and behold, he's changing his cue every five minutes. He's growing doubt all by himself. Dale does it too. Both have underachieved given their talent.

To be boring again; I Never Miss Blue is using a 56'' Joe Davis 16oz maple cue that you can buy for £50 on ebay and he's hitting the big numbers time after time. Now most folk would say he should be using a 57-58'' cue at 17-18oz. Doesn't matter, it has nice feedback (I know because I've owned one) and enough power if you have the technique.
Nice feedback ? How do you know as every cue plays differently!
And are you aware that Mags is on this forum 😆

      I Agree with this ^^^
I played my best Snooker when I was 14, making centuries with a £20 cue cause it was all my family should afford back then.
So cheap the cue was that I knocked it out of shape (along with other damaged parts) and it was assigned to the scrap heap.

No two cues, even with identical specs, ever play the same....that said similar specs is best approximate available to getting a similar feel....other than that it's luck of the draw.

You were engrossed, getting on with your game and it was very good too, tons at 14. Players who buy this and that, changing specs, changing shafts. It goes on and on and on. Endless and fruitless.

Searching for the one! Instead of them searching for the ONE; the best snooker player inside their mind. Searching for the one instead of searching for the ONE set-up and technique that will nail the shots like Judd. Pros aside, it seems like the best players on here have one cue and they happily play with it and ignore it largely. The lesser players seem to buy loads of expensive cues, maybe in makes up for their games; shopping therapy. All the kit, none of the grit.

            50 lessons > a Parris cue.

Yep! At the age of 14, no life pressures, did what I pleased, the very least of my worries was which damn cue I was playing with. By 16 I was playing for beer money and nights out so I grew up playing with the nessecity to win. Imo many players play to compete without having a nessecity to win. People now watch when I'm playing league nights and can't relate to my passion to win - they simply don't get it.

Anyway Splash - here's another tale:
Nearly 18 years ago my brother was blessed with a baby boy who was born 3 months premature. When I went to visit him (still in his incubator) I bought a new cue hours earlier (a nice peradon Royal one piece ash). The cue was bought for two reasons. 1. I had just graduated and thought I'd get back into my boyhood passion, the other reason was a promise to myself that if Thomas (my baby nephew) pulled through that I should teach him how to play cue sports with the intention of giving him the cue for his 18 birthday... Well after many hours of playing cues sports together for fun (as he has no natural talent for any cue sport) Thomas turns 18 next January and being true to my word he will receive his cue as promised.

To conclude; I am in the market for a new cue but times have changed even in just an 18 year period in the way we buy products (snooker cue in this case). That's why I have been opening threads regarding cue makers as I should like a custom made cue.

Sorry for the long post, but I feel better for typing it as I know that my search won't be ongoing for years as I just want a good hitter that responds to my personal nessecity to win. Albeit not very often any more... :snooker:

I would like to take up the task of making you a cue if you would like it. A top cue at that.

really is a nice story personly I got into snooker because of my grandad but I was at practice a few years back in our only snooker club which has since closed but I was practiceing at a table beside a elderly gentleman showing his grandson how to play the game and it was just really nice too see how that bond can form over a couple of balls and a bit of cloth

Thanks for reading - And although Tom isn't a natural at the game, he will look after his cue and no doubt will continue to produce new and greater memories with it

Thanks again for reading. I agree that great bonding between people can be formed over a couple balls and a bit of cloth. It's a very intimate game... :snooker:

I started playing snooker as something to do with my son when he was seventeen, for just the reasons you talk about, to spend time and keep the bond ( we have always been close) but like so many youngsters today, because he couldn't do it ,he didn't want to do it, where as I got hooked, now it's once in a blue moon he will come for a game.

Am sure as your lad grows and has greater experience with the challenges in life, he will wish and choose to play more often with you. Especially should he make you a grandpa... But not too soon eh?

That's a wonderful story. Just as long as he doesn't sell it and get a specced JPU! Let me tell you, that was a complete waste of time and money. The best cue I've ever used is the same as the cue I played with when a teenager and it's not my spec! The 2nd best cue I've used was me mate's 21oz Sherwood Cue Craft, also made from old air dried. Must be something in that timber. I'm sure Sanman or J6 can build you a player of a cue.
