Bent Grain

The grain on of me angel ash cues is bugging me. One of the chevrons isn't perfectly straight. The wood is about 55yrs matured at the moment, having been made in the mid-80s. Does anyone know how I can straighten this chevron out?

I had this on my old playing cue.

I took it to a mate and showed him, and he instantly knew how to sort it. He rubbed some Vaseline (quite a lot) into the chevron and left it to soak in overnight. The next morning he potted 5 long blues a maximum pace, handed me my cue back and said "have a loot at that pal".

I couldn't believe it, a perfectly straight chevron. Still don't know why it works, but it did!

Take it to John Parris. He could probably straighten that chevron out by fitting one of his joints!

This is the problem from the original Thai shafts in the 80s, always prone to the grain and chevrons moving.

Yes. I've missed three TCs today thinking about this. Imperfect ash. I blame the cheeky cherubs for knotting that tree; they knew a hundred years ago that bit of angel was destined to end up as a cue in my hand and that I wouldn't be happy.

I wonder if the feedback in the cue is affected by the chevron? Maybe I should phone Parris and get JP's serious thoughts. Maybe he's got a big steamer or something? But if the chevron is straightened will the rest of the shaft be affected?

I do like your effort mate, you did a great job. But I've got to look at the cue. Maybe if I print your picture and glue it on the cue? Nah, that's gonna fall off over time and I'll be forever printing pictures. How could this have happened to the board that made my cue; that flippin tree.

What's the stuff you colour your grain with? Why can't you do what Shockerz has done with it.
