Me mate fell out with the landlord at our local real ale pub when we were around 20. So he went to the table, picked a ball and threw it through the smoked glass window next to the table. Ball and a lot of glass hit the street. No-one saw that coming. Oddly enough, he was banned for a while. But being such a good drinker and card, he was let back in some months later. Not long after, they got rid of the pool table. Jonny, you ****ing idiot, you ruined our pub! Over 20yrs later the pub still doesn't have a table. Grrrr.

Eh? Don't understand your reply, the story is about pool?

Indeed, I can still play snooker because our players wouldn't do that! At the time, we pretty much ran the table together and it paid for our pints, we were on the team as well. They also got rid of the dart board and it's now a conversation pub. Lost all it's character. Tragedy. I still like E8 and A9 but snooker is the dogs, a man's game.

Back on topic yeah I've tried the cut break and that only seems to work for me on a couple of tables in town, the slower thicker cloths dont seem to split as well.... I guess it's down to technique more than anything but so many frames are decided on the break I wanted to give myself a better chance, we're changing to blackball rules in our league and entering national 7's you see so wanted to bring myself on and the break is a part I'm lacking in.

Have a look on post #11 there is a video of a player testing his Tyrone break cue. If your serious about finding something to break with you may as well get something that you can see works and pay a bit extra.

Interesting, why did your team or league decide to go blackball?

I would like to have seen him break a few racks with his normal break off cue, watching this doesn't tell me anything about the cue, it could be he's good at breaking.

Given this video was for his sponsor, yes, doubts. A before and after would have been nice, simply to show how much better his new cue is. That would have been good for his sponsor as well.

I had Jim Evans make me one (he converted one). It is about 16oz but has an 11mm phenolic tip.
Steve Daking done a small experiment with a light cue and a heavy one(100 breaks with each I believe). The lighter cue potted more off the break than the heavy one. It was put down to the higher speed obtained from the lighter cue.

His cue arm must have ached a bit after that!

A friend of mine taped a lead weight to the end of a cue and uses it to break, he reckons his cue is 30oz and he loves it, his playing cue is 11.25mm though and he's bloody good with it to be fair..

Had a look cheers but it doesnt tell me a lot about the cue, i'm going to buy some bits to convert/fix this old one piece and use it as a break cue see how i get on... one thing i did notice is that he sets the white up on the baulk line and cues the ball with his hand on the cushion, this is were i struggle with such a distance between my bridge hand and the cue ball, i set the white up about half way between the cushion and baulk line... perhaps this is something i need to practice too although i lose accuracy this way.

moving with the times i guess. i wasnt apposed to world rules but am happy to move to blackball rules, plus the higher local and national standard tournys all seem to be about BB rules now..... also now national 7's (interleague) are playing to BB rules so it gets us back involved with that too.
