Well, keeping it someone warm with dry air would help. Avoid humidity and light and it's got a chance like any cue. Keep em in the case I say. I know some keep cues in bedrooms, under the bed or in the wardrobe. I'd never do this. When you use a dehumidifier and a litre of water fills up overnight, you think, that's a lot of moisture in the air every night otherwise!

Every cue I have is in a case, wouldn't have it any other way.
I would like to add, I think the info on here and the stuff I have learned on the ,how old is your cue thread, really does show this forum off at its best, great stuff lads, I'm loving every bit of it.

The problem with this sort of stuff is that there are no rules and just as you think you have one you find a cue that breaks them!

          Never a truer word!

I have a dehumidifier now and am shocked that I empty it almost daily!

Never in light, never near a radiator or draught. Never near an open fire(!). Certainly not in a kitchen, shed or garage. A warm drawing or living room (in a case) I suppose then. It does become limiting. lol

              Snooker Cue Care – Dont’s

Lean your cue against a wall as it could warp the cue
Cues can when expose to temperature or humidity changes as follows:
Never leave your cue in a car
              Never place near a radiator
              Direct sunlight or conservatories
              Damp atmospheres
Banging your cue on the ground can fracture or break the base of your cue
Avoid sanding dents out of the cue as you could create flats
Catching the ferrule with sandpaper on re-tipping can reduce ferrule and tip size
Don’t store lose implements in your cue case that could damage your shaft
Do not roll your cue across the table to check straightness
Do not use a wet cloth to clean your cue as the water may soak into the wood

Never a truer word said in jest.

I've had 2 playing cues over the years. In my 20's I lent my cue to my Uncle. It came back with the top 8 or so inches snapped off which he said the cue had fallen and caught the table. That was 20 or so years ago.

I met a cousin recently that I hadn't seen for years who was playing him that day; you guessed it, my Uncle had taken a pasting and smashed the cue on the table, we all live and learn.

Never lent a cue out since! You wouldn;t lend your wife out so why your cue!

I was playing a friend at pool many years ago (way before TSF existed) asked to use my cue for his shots.... second shot he did we all heard a crack... the wood at the joint had split.

sent the cue to Parris and it came back straight (it was not before) so a silver-lining

but have never lent any cue of mine to anyone
                    Even the wife

When I got there the cue was in a metal tube, so I took it out and had a look and it was clear that it had snapped at some point and the last 6 or so inches repaired. No mention of it in the sale listing or on any photographs.

I didn't bid on it then, but it went for £220 which I thought was way over for a repaired pear version. The

I have an ash mannock which I believe is rarer than the usual pear shafted ones.
