  • JP Mannock

I was playing billiards last night and one of the old boys had a Mannock, I spied it straight away so asked him about it, he handed it to me and I had a look, very slim butt, looked like snakewood and another wood that had been lighter but darkened with age so it was hard to tell, both on top of machine spliced ebony i think, the thing I was wondering about was although the shaft had darkened with age, it looked to have a pinky hue to it so I asked him if it was pear ? He insisted it was maple but there was just something about it that just didn't feel or look like maple to me, is he right?
Lovely balanced cue though felt really nice across the bridge hand( I only got a few practice swings I didn't get to hit any balls with it unfortunately).
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

If it was a pinkish colour then it was pearwood.

Bloody hell Narl, I think that's his cue it looked exactly like that, thanks very much, it was a wee bit dark in the club but I could still tell it wasn't an aged maple shaft, cheers.

Oddly enough, that's one i'm flogging for an old guy in my local snooker club, he's in his 70's.

The one i have listed? Its got a brass ferrule on it. Not sure if it ever did have a horn ferrule apparently it was a special order for a billiards player when it was made, originally 20 oz .

No had a brass ferrule ,well to be honest I never noticed the ferrule , that's why I'm saying brass as if it was different I'm sure I would have noticed.

Aye, even with my eyes I think I would have noticed that lol. Do you play with the cue Bong? The old lad uses an ash cue for snooker but says he prefers that for the billiards,he's a very good player, still knocks in 50+ breaks in his late seventies.

Cheers ADR, so his could be totally original just with a brass ferrule, he did say he had had it a very long time and as I say he's in his late seventies( maybe early eighties) so it could be quite an old cue. Anyone know the dates these are made between?

Something like 1895\1900 to the 60's when riley bought burroughes and watts out.
