I use 70 percent Alcohol. To get red off the chalk. The idea that alcohol will drying the wood is simply not true. in less than 1 second alcohol steams and is gone.
Twice in month, I use cue Doctor liquid shaft cleaner to get red off all that chalk built up on the shaft.

Just go in the club and take one of those cues (which is cleaned up with a damp cloth in the past 3 years). Treat it with a cloch and abit of cue Doctor shaft cleaner and see for yourself how much chalk and smut comes off the shaft.

Any cue maker ( regardless of his experience or ...... ) , who recommends to treat the wood with water, Is wrong and I'm completely disagree with him.

sort of like a french polish or a light varnish.
none really but a lot of companies do it because it lasts a long time and keeps them shiny. If you live in a hot country it is not such a bad idea.

Then you are not aware of how each cue is finished. I would not use a damp cloth on some cues but on a cue coated with sanding sealer it will be fine - remember this is not a hobby for me!

              I did'nt say it was .

              Wood is Wood , Andrew.

water can'nt take the chalk off. Not 100 percent. The chalk will remain on the shaft and this will change the color of the shaft, not to mention screws up the quality of the shaft. Just like many second hand cues i've seen.

not if the wood is coated in a sealer.

Does protects the wood for a while, Not long. imo.
But, my point stands. water has not enough power to take the chalk off the wood.

btw, take a look at SHAFT MAINTENANCE in this page . ( at the same page , Scroll down ).

On that cue craft video the guy said to clean your cue with a scrunched up piece of paper.

Done this for years. Gets all the green crap off the shaft then a little bit of oil/wax and your cue is as good as new.
