Played with ash for many years .
Whenever I wanted to buy a cue , I looked for 3 things : Side grain pattern.
tight and thin grain pattern .
How many chevrons the shaft had , was absolutely Not important for me .
2 - taper
3 - color of the shaft
Not playing with ash anymore though .
Perfer Maple .
I like to test how a cue resonates when you hit it on your palm - test the whip sort of - and test the sound of the hit and the reaction of the cue
Could'nt agree more with this .
since the OP Mentioned buying a cue ONLINE .
especially with today's development with regards to diff kind of technologies.
you can just pick up the cue from behind the screen of your laptop and give it a try. Listening to the sound and that kind of stuff.
