That would be Danish oil but I would guess would some type of bleach to keep it lighter, so it don't change the colour...
Will look into that but cues were finished in all sorts of finishes, so hard to say which one your cue was done in...

Cue sealer is something used in the American pool cue industry, it is rebranded water based acrylic sanding sealer. Used to stabilise the wood, fill pores etc etc and give a good surface prep for finish. However they use wax finishes. Oil finishes used in snooker cues cannot be used on top as the wood is sealed!

As others have already advised if you want an oil finish that isn't dark, use danish oil. There are two types one tung oil based and the other linseed based. Down to personal preference. There is no bleach in it!!!

I only said about the bleach as all the Danish oil I've used is still dark and it was said about it not changing the colour....
It's changed the colour of the cues I've made our refinished..
Have been looking at and oil/wax finish but not had the chance to use it which is light and wouldn't change the colour at all or something like Osmo.
Again this is something I will get round to testing...

Never use raw linseed oil as it never dries, that's why they boil it. All oils will give their colour to the wood as none are truly clear, if you wish to keep the maple or ash as white as possible then a wax finish is best. Apply with a lint free cloth, leave for an hour then buff off the excess, once a day for a week or so.
Good luck in finding a truly clear wax though.

Sound advice from Steve here. Personally I don't like a pure wax finish, but if you're sealing the cue and want the lightest finish then wax is the way to go. Although you will probably be cleaning it forever and a day if you don't get it right.

The advice from cue makers was always never use boiled as it contained artificial driers !

then I saw a photo of Robert Osborne's workshop (from a few years ago) and there clear as day a large can of boiled linseed on the bench.
I still use raw as I have 1/2 litre I've had for many years and will last me for many years to come.
                  Up the TSF! :snooker:

So a wax is for sealing and finishing? 2 in 1? Regards

Yes you can use it for both and if you get a floor wax, it has be a little harder wearing

No the wax is a finish on the surface. The sealer you were asking for is a water based acrylic sanding sealer

Not saying i do'nt agree . especially when it comes to maple .
But, this picture is one of the Limited Maple cues that my brother got from Ton praram . and not the first Maple shaft i've seen so.
The color of maple was'nt changed ( as you can see in the picture ), and the cue was Oil finished . NO wax at all.
May i ask how is this possible? I mean what kind of Oil he has used on this cue ?

                              Just a question btw , ( It's no criticism ).
