  • Butt extensions ... how many types? Must have?

    Hello everybody.

I came from the pool planet. There the tables are small enough (largest being 9' x 4.5') and we don't need a butt extension. I recently came to the snooker planet and there are so many different types of butt extensions.

I saw a 6" mini butt, a 20" butt extension, and some telescopic ones. Anymore? Is there a standard set of lengths to those extensions?

Moreover, must the snooker cue butt (a production one, not a custom one) comes with a screw hole for the extension? Personally I don't like the hole, I like a bumper, and I don't want to use an extension. So I prefer not to have a screw hole there.

A similar question to the post http://www.thesnookerforum.com/cues-...ypes-4622.html ... what is the joint type/screw size of the screw hole at the butt? Is it standard? And so on...

    Thanks a lot.

there's no standard length, but most serious players have 2 extensions, a short and a long. the short is a mini butt usually around 6". the long can vary quite a bit, but usually a telescopic that can go from 19" to 33" is good. if you don't want a butt joint and want a bumper, you'll have to use a push on extension. or screw the extension into the 3/4 joint. there isn't a standard type of butt joint as far as i know.
