  • Do I need a longer cue?

I use a David H White 3/4 cue thats 58 inch long. I seem to hold the cue at the very end of the butt, often with my last 2 fingers over hanging the end and on some shots cant help but feel longer would be benefitial. I am 6foot 4 inch tall
I would probably have 3 inches put on the butt if I didnt think that would ruin the cue seeings as its got a nice badge, Will post pictures when my post count is up.
The shaft when using side hardly seems to make the cue ball throw and I find with any other cue when I attempt to use side im well off, hence why im reluctant to change cue, does this sound like a mind thing or should I look at some cues? ideal specs would be around 60.5 to 61 length, 9.7 tip and no more than 18.5oz weight. thanks for reading. paul

Do I need a longer cue?

how long is your bridge, ie from tip to the V of your bridge hand?
If longer than 10-12in I would suggest you shorten this and adjust your butt-hand position appropriately.
Before adding anything to your cue see if you can try a longer cue for a frame or so to see if you like it.
Adding so much will change the balance point and the cue will feel different.
Does your cue have a joint in the butt?maybe try a little minibutt to tell length you are looking for?
Not heard much about David White, do you have any info?
Can you post some pictures of it?
You can now regardless of post count by using photobucket or such and copy the IMG code into your post

Years ago I shortened my bridge as well as bending my bridge arm elbow as I was playing with a long bridge and a straight elbow; after mot that long the new position felt more compact, tighter, solid and comfortable

There are a few ways this can be done so that the balance point is in the same place...
Take the weight out and re weight it when the new splices have been added..
Something I've done before and not a problem doing, if you want it doing right or make you a cue to that size..
For that one you've always wanted...

question, have you ever safely removed and reapplied an old badge?

Yes that's not a problem, did one for a friend a few months ago.
Also been an antique furniture restorer for over 30 years, so that would be childs play

Does anyone know how to measure a person for the correct length cue for someones height?

I am 6ft 1 and 3/4 (sounds like a kid reciting his age) and use a standard length cue nowadays which seems fine as my bridge 'v' is the correct distance from the cue ball at address and my hand is vertical at the start.

Is that the correct way to work this out or is there another simpler way?

There have been numerous posts previously on this issue and how to calibrate ideal length of cue for eight and stance...if you do search they should come up...unfortunately I do not how to post links to them..from what you describe though I would say your cue is fine for you.

It also depends as it can be a bit of a grey area, some may P prefer smaller than what should be right for them or longer...
It's also what you feel comfortable with...
