  • best cue you ever owned?

I'm interested to know why players love a cue. I wonder if form plays a big part in our decisions to buy or sell...

What was the best cue you have ever had?
    What was good about it?
    Do you still own it?
    If not why?

    - Trevor White 3/4 Plain Ebony Maple
    - Played really well, super-smooth and a lovely shaft
    - No
    - Trevor sent me my cue but had made it incorrectly. I requested a round-butt but he made it with the flat. He asked me to play with the one he had sent whilst he made me a round-butted version as originally ordered.
When the cue was finished, I sent back the old one and got the new one. And I absolutely hated it! Haha.. good times

Lol. That is mad isn't it. Did you consider asking for the wrong one back? Must have been hard to take.

Thats the thing about cues, people THINK they know whats ideal for them but something else could suit even better. But if you get something thats slightly off it can play on your mind.

A round butt to a butt with a flat isn't much of a change really, most of the time people hold the cue enough up the butt so the flat isn't a factor anyway.

nah, it was at a dodgy time to be honest. i didnt really give the new one the best of chances haha and ended up selling the cue to adr. that was many years ago though maybe in 2009 haha

Lol, I guess this is the point of my thread - is there a perfect cue out there for you. I personally feel any decent cue will do the job if you work hard with it, then to make it a cue you love it's just about how it looks. Having said that I would love to spend an entire day at GBL or ADR's place giving several a good try to see if one leaps out as special.

Mine was a craftsman 1pc cue.

I went up to their shop and tried a few cues out, there was a 1pc sitting on the shelf that was probably a custom made cue but the customer changed their mind. It was ash/ebony with 4 snakewood splices and sycamore veneers, only had 3 arrows running down the shaft. I kept going back to this cue and I couldn't miss with it on the table in the shop, I felt like it was made for me so bought it for a modest £169 I think back in about 2004/5.

I sold it less than a year later on Ebay.

Reason I sold it was because when I bought it there was no end joint for extensions. So I sent it back to craftsman to have a joint fitted and when I got it back it just didn't feel like the same cue. So my lesson was that if a cue plays well, don't alter anything and any cue I bought after I made sure the end joint was fitted before I started using it.

                  Trevor White one piece .

Amazing feel / balance to it . [ Everyone who picks it up says the same ]
Can generate a lot of movement with the white on straight-ish shots . Suppose the the word i'm looking for is .....responsiveness .
                  And as they say , it's a player !

Still own it , had it for 4 years .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Best cues I ever had are in no particular order a John Parris ultimate a Trevor white a Stamford a James butters and a northwest - all one piece - basically one really expensive two expensive two cheap as chips - price is no barrier to gaining a good cue

MY one piece James Butters cue is the best cue I've ever owned, albeit it i'm relatively young and have only owned the cheap Riley cue I was given as a youngster, Peradon and Cue craft before that.
£160 well spent, I don't see the need for paying over the odds for a name.

Ouch! Painful lesson eh! I've done the same with golf clubs - not worth messing with them.

Trevors cues have a very strong following. I must try one if I can get my hands on one some day!
