Cue Shortening Recommendations

Hi folks,

I'm thinking of getting about 1" - 1.5" taken off my cue as it just feels slightly too long for me. Could anyone on here recommend someone within about an hours drive of Chester who would be able to do it ? Not something I fancy doing myself as it's an expensive cue and I don't want to butcher it ! Also, is it likely to be a job which can be done 'while you wait' (depending on workload obviously) ?

I seriously doubt you'd get a while you wait job. The cue would have to be retapered to tip size after cutting down

Couldn't you hold it a little further up the butt?

It would be a shame to mess with a cue and take the chance that it plays completely different and then has no resale value because it is cut down.

How long is the cue at the moment and how tall are you? I'm short, 5ft3, but I use a cue only 1 inch shorter than a normal length, a 56 inch cue. I've gone down the route of cue shortening with previous cues and I've regretted it both times. I certainly wouldn't have more than 1 inch cut off as it will feel completely different.

I wouldn't mess with an expensive cue like that, you're best off selling it and buying a shorter one because there's every chance you won't be able to play with it once modified and then you'd have to sell it for a lot less

Appreciate the comments, perhaps I just need to give it a bit more time before making a potentially expensive mistake.

ive had up to 4 inches come off and it worked an absolute delight lol. ive never had any issues chopping down cues and ive had plenty done

I went the other way and had an inch more put on an old cue and the butt spent the next 10 years under my bed as a burglar welcoming tool, it had a lot of weight in.
It only came out recently for a swap with a Dunne's one piece i took a fleeting fancy too, the bloke who got it cleaned it up then started chopping bits off and adding bits on so now it weights 21oz with all the weight in the butt and god only knows what length it is, he was using a different cue the other day so it's probably in his greenhouse propping up a tomato plant now

Although I've only had three cues since 1990 I had 2 inches taken off each when I purchased them as I prefer a 56 inch cue.The Snooker Shop in Levenshulme has done the shortening on each cue & was very inexpensive.I just left the cue with them & returned a couple of hours later.In each case I tapered the cue down myself.This was made slightly easier as I had 10mm ferrules fitted instead of the original 9 or 9.5 mm ones.I have also had other work done by Tony Wilshaw of Stoke & would highly recommend him,especially if you require the cue to be tapered for you.Not sure he could do it while you wait as he gets very busy but it's definitely worth asking.
