  • Cue Lengthening (Massacar Ebony)

I've recently bought a used Glover Cue (pic below):

I'm sending it back to Tony for some alterations, one of them being to lengthen the cue slightly.

I'm wanting to keep the butt all Massacar Ebony. Has anybody done this before, will the new wood over the old wood be unsightly (be able to see the difference) or will Tony be able to blend it in ok etc? The cue is also getting refinished.

    Thanks for your advice!

Depends really, I've had this done with black ebony and its usually hard to see the additional splice lines unless you're looking at it under a light. With macassar because it has a very visible pattern it will probably just look like the grain.

There's a couple of galleries on stamford cues site with ding and selby's cues being lengthened with additional ebony.

Best to ask Tony's advice really, might be unnoticeable but you could always ask for a veneer between the woods as I did when my plain ebony cue was lengthened.

Ah yeah, good idea. I guess I could just get an Ebony veneer or something, something very subtle.

The Selby one is a good example, very similar job I guess. Suppose it would also depend on what the colouring on the new Massacar is like. Sometimes it can be a bit browner can't it.

Yup, if you ask him to try and match it up so its hard to see he'll probably have a bit thats close to it.
