Came across an exquisite cue from my club the other day, noticed that the ash looks abit diff to all the other cue I've seen so I went to their website and had a look, the grain looks much wider apart and a lot more empty spaces in between, saw a close up of john Higgins cue when he was playing Mark Allen and notice the same thing, is it a different kind of ash? Anyone else noticed??

Just really depends on the board he's cutting it from, some has wide grain, others tighter grain. This one is pretty tight.

The grain can vary across one board, tight on one side and wide on the other, straight in the middle and wavy down the sides and vice versa. So you can take an ultimate straight grained shaft from only two inches of an eight inch wide board, charge seven hundred quid for it and only charge two hundred each for the other three from the same board.
