Pottr on this forum said his grandad has a beech cue, so it's nothing new, just rare I guess, but unlike pearwood it's freely available and could catch on once someone of real ability has a go with one and endorses it.
In the 20's and 30's there was lots of different timbers that use to be used for shafts....

Oak, hickory, hawthorn, pear..... Just to name a few.
Had a Hawthorn cue before but they are very hard to keep straight!

I had a guy (was a century breaker a few years ago) ask me to re-ferrule his cue.

When he dropped it off you could see he had tried himself and totally wrecked his cue. The cue ferrule was awful, the shaft was damaged around the ferrule and the butt looked like he had been trying to break concrete with it.

I gave it straight back to him for not telling me what he had done and expecting a perfect job afterwards.

Come on Shocker.... It was just a little white lie lmao....well almost, as he didn't tell you the truth in the first place....
Repaired a friend's cue that had been broken by another friend and he has tried to for it back together...was more like a boomerang, until I fixed it...

Nah! I love the guy to bits but if he was showing this around as my work (and he was to start with but forgot to put people right) I dare not give him an opportunity to drag me down any more.

I actually had people asking me what I had done to his cue before he even gave it to me!

If you saw the rest of the cue and the way he treats them, sacrilege.

Oh I've seen a few that might come close or a friend of mine that snaps them when he is playing bad and had a drink...
Done a few like that over the years lol

Helped lots of people I know out but you gotta be careful as us snooker people can be fickle.

Had another guy telling people the tip I had put on was just awful, no reaction and wasn't happy; I heard him as I was just coming in the club.

Asked him what he was struggling with and then picked his cue up, played all the shots with it that apparently this tip wouldn't do and then gave him the number of a local snooker coach.

Funnily enough he bought a new cue off me a couple of weeks ago....................he's now my new best friend.

Maybe you should start another thread called the rogue's gallery of cue fixes.

That would be a good read and I'm sure would create a few laughs and debate!

I took a couple of years out of making but really got back to it.
Few of the cues I've made the last year or so, with 5 orders

Can't do to bad with two glowing reviews of the last two cues, with one bring my first oak one.
Which is the second one in the pics.
