  • Yet another hunt obyrne cue for sale ????

having been looking for a new cue over the last few months , this forum has been my go to place to see how good or bad a cue is i'm looking at on ebay. then i started to look at threads regarding hunt o'byrne cues, then low and behold while looking on ebay again last night, up pops another mint example.
What is happening with these cues, where are these mint examples coming from.
It seems to me some people are going to get their fingers burned badly, until the truth comes out, about the origin and truth of these cues, i may seem sceptical, but they all seem too good to be true. this particular example was from a house clearance in london ???
Any thoughts from any of you guys and girls?
I've seen 2 similar ones on these forums that have magically appeared on ebay, so how many are still out there? where are they from? who's making them?
here's the link to the newest cue i found yesterday?

It's a lad on TSF cue Gazza and to be fair to him he first put it on as a replica( which he didn't have to as it's not clear at all if it is) but eBay said he wasn't allowed to say it was a replica, so this was the only way to word it. He has posted up on the forum that he had to do this.

That would be the one i have, and ebay for some reason shut down the original listing where it was listed as a possible replica. Yet apparently burwat champion replicas and olde ash ones are fine? Thats why i have some text highlighted in the listing.

I've had a couple of enquiries about the cue on ebay and have mentioned that i don't know if its a totally legit cue in responses.

if they had flushed the badge with resin and polished it off would be very hard to tell - also the joint should have a slight chamfer where it meets.

The badge does have a type of cover on it (perspex or something thats usually on them) and its flush to the butt, pretty much looks the same as the other cue i have with the glover shaft.

The covering is really clear so it only shows when there's light hitting off it, you can see it more so in the second to last pic in the listing.

                  Tough one to call this.

It's very unfortunate that no one can tell truly tell whether or not if the cue is real or a replica & would be great if the buyer does get an original but ver sad if Not.

I've been a victim of buying what I thought was the real McCoy cue before hence why I've mixed feelings.

It is a tough one this & the seller is doing nothing wrong selling it as a Hunt & O'Byrne but if I wasn't personally 101% sure that it's real I would certainly be using words to effect like "facsimile" & "imitation" in the description & quite possibly Facsimilie in the title.

Using the word Replica in the listing header was always going to be flagged.

I agree with the consensus on here, fair play to narl for being up front. it would be great it if was real though, it's the chance you take i suppose.
My real question though was where do people think these cues are coming from, if they are replicas i mean, i'm no expert, but they do look lovely cues, and i'd love to own one, but not at the money they seem to be making.

When these cues ( not this one as I don't know, just these type in general)first hit the market on eBay, I remember the seller clearly stating they were not originals but copies with well known cue makers badges stuck in them. They were sold for roughly £150 iirc . There was a discussion on here at the time and I remember saying give it a few years and these copies will be on eBay as originals and folk will be getting stung.

What i find hard to understand is the cue was removed apparently for me having "possible replica" in the listing, however you can search "replica" and find other items with that heading. So presumably it was a direct complaint from someone that got it removed and not a random "by chance" find by ebay.

Maybe Will Hunt "found" another one and doesn't want any others being sold in the meantime.
