  • 17.5oz vs 19.5oz

Hi folks, is there a substantial difference in feel between these 2 weights when actually using the cue? Basically the cue I'm having made will come out at 19.5, I usually play with a 17/17.5. I'm looking for advice on wether it will feel massively different.

    Cheers.

I doubt I can that's the problem, it's ok holding a 19.5oz at the cue makers but like you say I think I need to play with one :-/

Why've would you order a new cue with such a change in weight?

Nothing's confirmed yet, but for what I want, butt joint, 3/4 joint, etc he can't get the weight down. Unless it stays as a 1 piece.

Who is making the cue ?
And 3/4 cues do NOT start as a one piece cue (unless you are getting it spliced through tips of splices, or through the shaft itself)

Well those are my options, 1 piece at 17.5, or 19.5 3/4 joint. I'll just try out the heavier option and see how it feels

Wrap some golfers lead tape around the cue. You can get the weight up to 19.5oz and see how it plays.

The extra weight is because the butt is one piece of wood and if it's something like ebony, it will weight a lot more but there are ways of getting the weight closer to 17-17.5oz, by drilling it out and putting a lighter wood in the hole...

Also having a brass joint, sort brings the weight up...
For that one you've always wanted...

Yes, weight DOES matter and going from a light 17,5 to a heavy 19,5 is a big change. I was playing with a 19,5/20 oz cue in the past and it's too heavy. It affects the fluidity of your cue action, especially after long trainings. It provides a steady cue action for long pots but in the balls, you are losing fluidity. Down the road, you have physically more weight to move around to get the shot done.
I'm now playing with an 18,5oz cue and it's the perfect weight for me.

My cue snooker cue is 478 grams or 16.861 oz.
Some guys in my club use heavier snooker cues like 19.5 or even 20+. They feel so heavy to me, so much in fact that I have a hard time classifying them as snooker cues.
Agreed with Erzwan, 2oz transition is huge, no matter which direction.

Where do you live? I'm sure there will be a shop or two not too far away where you can have a play with a few cues to feel the difference: as above, it is HUGE!!
