Why are pool and snooker cues so different?

To be honest Dean , manufacturing process might also factor in . I own an Abe Rich cue which is generally considered to be " hand made " because it was turned by hand on a lathe , rather than milling or cnc machinery . I believe Maple , because it is a closer and more uniform grain and generally it is a denser wood , is easier to turn than Ash because with Ash the grain is relatively " all over the place ". Historically American cues have been and still are , turned rather than planed , from a commercial point of view less wastage i.e. Maple tears less than Ash , then Maple would be the timber to use to maximise profit and ensure uniformity in taper and standard of shafts . Machinery makes mass production possible , even in the late 1800 / early 1900s and mass production = profit via economies of scale . Small scale builders who turn out small quantities of cues , controlling quality on a micro managed basis will always produce perceived " high value " cues , which is why custom makers in both the UK and the USA can charge a premiuim for their products . Of course , without a time machine to go back , I cant ask them the relevant questions on timber choice and manufacturing process , although I believe I have put a relevant view point across.

Don't play American pool that much, if at all, but I've always wondered why American pool players prefer 2 piece cues?

You know I wonder why snooker players prefer the 1 piece cue, I mean I would prefer to have a one piece based on feel, but it seems so difficult to take with you in the automobile or travelling.

You can also have back up shafts or shafts with different diameters, same shaft with different tips, etc with a 2 piece.

He was rumoured to be joining the GB9 tour but it fell through for some reason. As for him 'cleaning up' in American pool, no chance, just like any other snooker players. Players adapt to their conditions and changing ain't so easy.

I suppose it would depend on how dedicated he would of been to adapting.

From my understanding Lee has opened a snooker room over in Shenzhen China and teaches the youth snooker. He would clean up over here playing, without a doubt!! His ability to apply spin, draw, follow is stellar. Some of those positional shots he played were on par with anything Efren Reyes has shot.
Look at what Allison Fisher did.

What do you think of his arm movement/cueing action of Stephen Lee, I think it is interesting how he drops the back part of his arm on power strokes.

An interesting part of this instructional video by Mosconi, it is at 1:30-2:30 minutes in, where he is talking about grip he advocates that same motion of dropping the back part of the arm.

I had no idea Jacoby had some expensive offerings of that price.

Those are beautiful cues. That Shah Jahan is amazing, if it really took 10 people working 300 hours to make it, the 25k price tag isn't to bad, when you break it out hourly.

Others have done it.

Only Mark Gray has been successful, and he's hardly elite. No snooker/English pool player has ever developed a break good enough to be truly dominating. Even Appleton, who has won virtually everything, struggles with his break.
