Why are pool and snooker cues so different?

    Nice share
IMO - like anything; if the cue is well looked after and loved by a caring owner, then there should be no reason why a good cue can't remain equally as good 50 years down the line. Wood matures over time...
But I'm sure Ninja should have a better opinion on this from his antique background... :snooker:

I checked out Ninja's facebook page for his cue sticks, his cues are quite nice. I haven't seen to many cues made, so it was interesting to see some of his photos he had shared. It looked like he started with a square dow looking piece of wood and then clamped wood down onto to shape the butt?. I was a bit lost honestly, maybe he will be kind enough to share a little about the process.

Allison fisher is the most successful woman pool player of all time, so you saying no snooker player can be a world champion is a bit silly, since it has already happened.
You seem so staunch on your opinion without considering or even acknowledging my point about Fisher, we will just have to agree to disagree
WTF has Fisher got to do with this?

Simply not possible without major rule changes, especially on the break.
They won't, but not because it is not possible. UK pool player Appleton is definitely top 16 in US pool, perhaps top 3 even, has been for years now, and yet what is his break off like? Average at best. It didn't prevent him from winning major titles, even with winner break rules.
Do you honestly believe that say Mark Selby could not reach level of Appleton within say 2 years of constant play of US pool? Come on now.
Selby is not only the best snooker player. He's also the best pool player among pure snooker guys. Yes, he does have previous UK pool experience, but he's a pure snooker player, always has been.

Parris aren't all they're made out to be, Mike Wooldridge, Trevor White, Tony Wilshaw, Tony Glover, Dave Coutts, Raymond Cohen, Martin Daley are some of the best, along with Andy Travis.

              Oh interesting response, thank you.
There is a cue maker here named bob meucci, people either think he is the best or overrated. Doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground when people talk bout Bob.

What is the standard length on the snooker shaft, As I look through a lot of pictures of snooker cues it looks as though the butt is shorter than the shaft

Selby already beat Appleton in British pool, don't see why he couldn't beat him again .

There have not been that many made yet but that is changing and lack of a full time workshop... Has not helped.
I take mine down to a square taper, which is over size, from there.
Your taking the corners off, to make it round.
                  As for how to matures.....
Ash and maple, stays about the same over the year's.
Have a maple cue I had made for me about 30 ago and still plays lovely.
Also have 4 on the go at the mo and talking to someone in India about a beech one.
