Which cue should I buy?

Hi everyone could I get some help on which cue I should buy for snooker and pool I play both. I'm currently using a cheap Riley cue which I'm not happy with.

Choose a cue that suits you. If you're serious you won't buy online and get yourself up to Greenbaize or a cue retailer near you. Try before you buy!

For snooker around 9.5mm is about right. I've had no problem using a tip around this size for both games for the last number of years. I like the weight at around 18oz, works fine for snooker and pool. Try and get to somewhere you can try a few cues, Greenbaize or Chesworth snooker. Otherwise maybe try some rack cues in your local snooker hall and see what kind of specs you like. If you can't make it to Greenbaize then it's well worth having a chat with Stuart who runs it, he's a sound guy and you'll get some good advice. ADR147, Andrew Ramsay of this forum is a good bloke to chat to about this too.

Whatever you do don't go too small with the tip, especially if you're a beginner, 9.5mm would be fine for both cue sports.

Thanks guys for your advice, most snooker stores are quite a distance from where I live. I've had my eye on a peradon York snooker cue and would like to know if anybody would recommend.

There are certainly better value cues out there for the money, buying cues is a lottery buying blind. You're either lucky or not 50/50 is not good odds for me. Best advice has already been said previously, I would go to a retailer such as greenbaize and others. It is worth spending 50 quid on fuel(my car would get to most places in country for that money) to go there. Stu would have plenty of cues at that budget inclusive of the fuel used. No brainer for me!

The first thing to look at is what you are not happy with, weight, balance, length or tip size? If you can't get to a decent shop, get to a club with a few rack cues and try as many as you can until you find one that suits, or try your friends cues. Once you have a decent idea of what suits you, buy the best you can afford, but buy second hand, that way you won't lose too much if you need to sell it on. Where are you based and what is your budget?

I've tried several friends cues and seem to like a heavier cue, the tip size approx 9.5. My budget is around £200.

Healthy budget for a first decent cue, you'll get a decent Thai cue and case package second hand for that, if you prefer new I'd suggest an unbadged James Butters cue, will hold it's value if you don't get on with it, but quality can be a bit hit and miss. Your best bet is to message ADR147 and see what he's got in, he has his own cues including all the extensions and case well within your budget, he'll see you right.

Which cue should I buy?

I have a lovely greenbaize C3 cue
quality ash shaft
58 9.3 18oz
I can do it for 200 delivered in the UK
be hard to find a better cue for that money

Nice cue, slightly smaller tip will be handy to use for both, and if you don't get on with it you'll easily get your money back selling it or swapping it.
