  • Part exchange when buying cues

I hope some of you can help?
Are there any shop retailers that do part-exchange on cues when buying?
A friend of mine has got a few cues he is willing to give up in return for a new cue with a few quid on top if necessary.

    Does retailers enter such negotiations?
    Thanks

It might be worth putting what cues your friend has, what cue he is after and price range.

This may or may not interest the cue sellers on the forum but at least they have some details to wet their appetite.

Got no pics and he is old school, so not internet savvy. Hence why he'd like to walk into a shop a do business if there is any business to do.
I know that the snooker shop in Manchester sells 2nd hand cues so he may well be the best option. Just thought someone may have a lead or two...
      Thanks shockerz

If he wants to trade in a Parris for £50 then any shop would offer a part ex.
If he wanted to trade in a classic BCE from 1990s Argos then no chance.
Cant imagine anyone has any leads at all without knowing what he has to part ex... imagine any ship would need to sell them plus VAT and and 50% mark up so he’d get very poor offers anyway unless paying massively over the odds for the cue he’d be buying?

          Thanks for your input.
As said before he's not Internet savvy so can't sell online.
I guess it just highlights how much the world has changed...

It’s not changed at all.. you’ve always been bent over when you part ex anything.
I used to buy old Cues from craftsman that they’d taken in part ex but they’ve stopped doing it.

            Scenario used to go:
Chap comes in wanted a part ex on a Joe Davis cue, and says “its worth £100”
Shop goes “We’ll if it was worth £100 that’s £80 for me after tax, but actually it’s worth about £50”
Chap goes “I accept your offer of £50”
Shop goes “I haven’t offered you £50, that’s what I could sell it for which is £40 after tax”
Chap goes “I accept your offer of £40”
Shop goes “I haven’t offered you £40 - I don’t want a cue that might hang around 6 months before it sells, and when it does I make nothing on it... and if it did sell they’d be buying that rather than the new Cues I have where I have a very good markup..”
Chap goes “Well what are you offering me then?”
            Shop goes “£20”
Chap goes “I’m not accepting hat I could sell it any time for £50”
Shop “Thanks for wasting our time”

I think in craftsmans case they used to pay the £50, but just ended up with loads of mediacre Cues they didn’t move on for ages. What people tend to forget is that businesses are in the business of making money.. not doing you a favour.

Very true. What I've noticed about cue sport players is, they want something for nothing.

Nothing here I disagree with because if someone has 5-10 old cues then a deal could be done where the guy selling and wants a new cue could have that cue with a price tag of £150 for £50. In the knowledge that he hasn't got the burden of trying to sell the cues himself and the shop can do their business and make a nice sizeable profit for themselves...

Hence why I asked and behalf of an individual who prefers this old school way of working because they haven't got access to the internet and are still quite computer illiterate.

Sometimes a man walks into a shop with the sole purpose of using a bartering system in which to leave that shop with a product they came in to buy.

Why don't you offer to sell the cues for him on ebay or on here/facebook ? If cues are half decent you would be doing him a big favour financially

The fact that I don't even know how to successfully share pics on this site, says enough.
+ they are not my cues :snooker:

Well I think friend reads a little better in terms of respect to him and you guys on the forum, rather I know a block or some guy is selling his cues!
That said, you're right he is not a sit down and break bread type of friend. Just trying to do someone a good turn...
I've mentioned the snooker shop in Manchester so he's got a least one shop to try and off load his cues too.
