  • Cue ripping out whiskers

    Hi guys,

since i started growing a beard i got problems to concentrate on my shots.

The cue got very tiny "fissures" a long the wood grain which ripping out my whiskers.

As it is my first and only cue im not sure if this "fissures" are usual.
You can see what i mean if you zoom into the image.

Any idea if this is normal?

    Thanks

      (sorry, cant see picture)

the grain of ash cues (mostly) is known to do this for players who are nice and low on their shots
this is why Steven Maguire plays with a maple shaft

if the finish of the cue is a bit rough, you could get a cue doctor to refill the grain to get a smoother finish and hope that helps

      where abouts are you located?

see image now, was hoping to see a hedgehog of a shaft

Just rub it with some fine steel wool.

Nothing much finer than oooo wool for a smooth finish used it on hundreds of cues over the years if not sure put a spot of oil on it before using it.

My cue used to do this and I always just tried to ignore it. I found that after I used Mike Wooldridge's cue oil for maintenance that the problem resolved itself. I followed his instructions including the wire wool stage on his site (http://handmadecues.com/cue-oil/). I'm assuming the grain had been somewhat filled by cured oil so no more missing hairs.

                            Get a shave.
                            Refinish your cue.
Or buy a pearwood one piece.

                            Sorted !
