So if you can put a new shaft on a butt, what about a new butt on a shaft?

In this case I wouldn't, you would lose the badge, it would no longer be recognised as a Regal, it would no longer be jointed at 16" which is where a JP Regal is jointed and it would lose value.

But yes you can put a new butt on a shaft but you would also need to alter the existing shaft to increase the tip to 10mm.

Apologies, I meant in general and is it expensive, time consuming etc?

Back at the original subject in hand,

James Butters makes a great value cue.

You get good value at different prices, depends what price point you're looking at. Grand seem very good for the small outlay (sub £100). Thai cues (Master Cue, Phoenix, Ton Praram) tend to represent good value, then you have a whole host of reputable makers to choose from.

If you're in London I'd suggest paying Robert Osborne a visit in his Tooting workshop.

There must be some kind of private "cue dealer" down south that would let you try a few cues out before you buy one? Maybe someone that runs a club or something.

Frames - as in Coulsdon in Croydon? - I've seen mainly TSF cues to be honest in their display

wow thanks for the many replies to this thread guys... I will contact John and see what he can do - fortunately the snooker season is now finished for us and we have managed to win the league somehow unbeknown to me! im keen to see how i can get a new shaft made up with a 10mm tip to fit the regal cue that seems like my best bet im guessing... question is, who can i get that would make a shaft to fit a JP regal cue?
what a frustrating, yet addictive game this is....
