  • To replace cue or not?

    Hi there.

I started playing snooker just over a year ago I take it quite serious I'm a bit of a perfectionist. From early on I invested in a Robert Osborne cue Red plate (pics on the link below). Maybe it wasn't the best decision to buy a cue so early on but it's done now .

The cue is pretty standard in terms of weight and length with a 9.5mm ferrule. After using it for a year I feel like my shaft is maybe slightly too thin for my liking although I love my cue I've got a constant thing in the back of my mind about replacing it.

My question is would the guys on the forum advise me to simply carry on playing with this or take the hit and replace it. Is there any advantages of a thinner shaft vs a thicker shaft?

Also, which brand would be a reasonable upgrade in the £400-600 region without being a downgrade from Robert Osbornes amazing cues.

    Thanks guys.

You can get many great quality cues below that price point. if you are scoring well with the RO, I suggest that you keep it. They are really good quality. Bear in mind that once you start the fickle mindedness with cues, it will never come to an end (I am already a happy victim to that ) If you have decided to change the cue, then contact adr147 over here, he has superb quality cues, worth a try IMHO. He’s available about 1-2 weeks later though.

If you've got the money, go for it. But, sods law, there will be an aspect of the cue which isn't as good as the Osborne. Being a perfectionist is expensive when it comes to cues.

With regards advantages of a thinner cue, some say that the lower end mass reduces cue ball deflection when playing with side. Can't comment on that since I haven't owned enough cues to compare.
