  • Lacquer peeling

Hi all, is it true that when the Lacquer on a cue starts to come off that there is very little that you can do to stop it ????. The reason i ask is that i have a small area on my cue where this has happened, and as the cue is only a few weeks old i don't want to do anything drastic, also how far up a 1 piece cue does the lacquer normally go??. At the moment it is only a very small area, but i don't want it to get any bigger, the nearest snooker shop is miles away, plus i can't afford a new cue again lol.

    Cheers Carpy

Didn't you also have an issue with the ferrule? If its a new cue, send it back.

It is an ADR147 1 piece cue, it's a lovely cue, just a couple of minor issues, like i said its is just a small bit of lacquer that has come away, like it had a small bubble in the lacquer that has now popped, but i want to stop it before it gets any worse if i can.

Might be best to ask Andy (ADR), he will know better what finishes are on his cues and can probably offer the best advice.

I've had lacquered cues in the past where I have repaired them with wax and then finished in wax once dried hard but a bit of a pain sometimes.

it is not lacquer it will be sanding sealer - you could in theory go over it with fine sandpaper and oil it but for that mark I would not bother, cues will get marks and dents etc - use it for a year or so then send it to me and I will re finish it for you.

Thanks Andy, that puts my mind at ease, as this is my first decent cue i was not sure, only had lacquered cues before this, just did not fancy it lifting away all over, will fine wire wool help feather the edges?? or is it best just left alone.

Yes you could do that or rub it with wax and buff but honestly if you start worrying about stuff like that you will be doing something to the cue every time you play!
