don't know about the Best cue for you, only you will know that

the best place to buy from is a place you try cues before you buy...

also, how do you mean Soft in places?
the only thing I can think of is that the surface got wet and the top fibres have fuzzed up a bit- not major, gentle sand with a very fine sandpaper and give the surface a very light oiling to feed the fibres and smooth things down

any of the above could probably do this for you

what i mean the wood is sofe is that its got little divets in places
and thanks i will try craftman cue

if you have divots and dents on the shaft it could mean you are hitting the cue onto the table or the light canopy (if you have this)
or using the shaft to stop/move balls around the table

don't do both
these do not mean the wood is soft - only means it is being used in a manner it was not designed for :wink:

Could try Cuepower in Worksop. I've used them and they were good.

Depending where abouts in West Yorks you are, there is also Cue Sports Yorkshire, in Keighley, or Cue and Case in Pudsey.
Rebecca Kenna at cue sports in Keighley is great to deal with, and has loads of cues for all price ranges, there is a table to try your new cue on.

If it's an ash shaft, I think you mean about it being soft in places, is were the grain can wear at the softer parts at the top of the chevrons.
Were you can get dips, you sometimes get this if the cue has not been oiled much and moisturise got to it...
Doesn't feel so smooth when this happens..
