is it the fact you changed the quoted weight from 17 1/2oz to 27 1/2oz?

yes it was a joke based on the chunkiness or robert osbournes joints!

I am sure all cue makers would be more than happy to make you a cue with any joint you like, no extra work for them after all.

I think the airlock joint gives the illusion of a modern joint, and therefore people think its better.

Fact is that most cue makers have equally good joints, but there are a few poor ones out there also

One of my work colleagues has just bought a craftsman cue, the burr wood, the joint on that is not a bad joint, as good as any imo

i thought that lol. yes they are heavy but i have not seen any better.
brass being soft (as you will know being a cue maker yourself) it is important imo that the washers on the joint are of some substance to avoid the problem of turning through time.
yes craftsman joints are very good. better than most. probably the best value for money cues on the market.

thanks to all who replied with links and photos about the air lock joint. had one on a snooker cue , just didn't know it had a name. I don't think I would like a joint like that on my pool cues.

I prefer a Uni Loc joint for quick release on pool cues. less than 2 turns releases the shaft from the butt and I can make a hasty exit...lol

What I will say about joints is that I don't like the Robert Osbourne joint purely because of the reason given by 'The Doctor' and that is because it is a big and heavy joint. This is purely my personal choice. I feel that the heavy joint becomes the focal point of the cue and detracts from the 'feel' given by more lighter joints.

I think that of all the joints being used at the moment, the one that I prefer is the one used by Trevor White. I have no affiliation to Trevor, just like the 'feel' of his 3/4 joined cues. I also like the John Parris joints but feel that they are a little weak compared to the above.

                      Just my 'two-pennyworth'!!

would love to see some pics of Trevor's cue joints!

i for one prefer a the one-piece cue & i've heard a lot of ppl complain about transporting them around, but honestly for someone like me who had to transport 6-8 poles (5m long, weighing around 2.5 - 3 kg each) around the world for 17 years of professional Pole Vault career and having to travel from one country to the next every couple of days during the summer season, i find transporting a one-piece cue a piece of cake

after all, the case is only 10 or 12 inch longer than the regular 3/4 cue case

Totally agree with you Sam. i've never found it awkward sitting in the front seat even of any car bigger than a mini. with my one piece and case.

Every cueist ought to try fishing just once I reckon. Try lugging around 8ft rod bags and the rest of the gear.

can't get a one piece cue in oldgit's ferrari !! but the 3/4 goes where you might otherwise put your misses!
