They used to be made in Blackpool, England, and those ones just couldn't be beaten for a value for money cue. I had one of these, excellent cue.

Late in the 90's, the license for Barracuda cues was sold to some bloke, can't remember his name. Nowadays all Barracuda cues are manufactured in China, and I've heard complaints about dyed ebony and so on.

If you have an early one, keep it. Otherwise avoid like the plague.

Dave Fisher, that's the guy. Despite now being made in a Chinese factory with crappy wood, you still pay the same price. What a rip off.

How do you know when and from whom was this cue made then? Is there any major difference in the logo or something like that?

As far as I know, the Chinese manufacturer plates are the same as the English ones and don't include dates.

Maybe someone like ADR147 would know some esoteric detail, but I don't think there's any way to tell.

To anyone who's interested...

I'd say that's a newer one. The joint looks like a Mastercue joint, not the original longer type Barracuda joint, which had a longer blank spiggot and thread with the same pattern as JP cues. The older thread was an old imperial one, whereas this one in the image looks more like a coarse American thread to my eyes.

I guess I could be wrong though, it's not easy to see it.
