One of the local players in Ballarat has an Ivory League cue made by Mill Stovenovski (who is supposed to have worked for John Parris). It's a beautiful cue and has the most unusual grain. I was told it's shaft is "light ash", rather than the dark ash in most other cues I've seen. The major difference is the tightness of the grain, which leads this cue to have more than 12 chevrons.
The only other mention I can found of Light Ash in shafts is another Australian maker, Zac's Cues from Queensland (http://www.zakscustomcues.com/cuesh.html)
I've played with this cue (which cost over $1000AUS new) and it is fantastic, especially with side, but where does this timber come from? I'm wondering, is light ash an Australian timber? Do any of the makers in the UK use it?
