Cue Lengths (on Masters TV during break)

I thought that the short discussion on cue during last nights Masters tea break was interesting......first the Parris 'plug' and then the cue specs of Mark Selby and Stephen Lee. I thought it was interesting that they both use exactly the same cue specs (obviously apart from Lee using maple shaft and Selby using ash shaft). Both use 9.5mm tip size and 17.5oz weight but what suprised me was that they both play with 57in cues. Unless I am mistaken, Mark is well over 6ft tall so I just assumed that he would be playing with a longer cue.

Mind you, as has been pointed out many times, Mark Williams is also well over 6ft tall and uses a cue that is under 57in long!

What complaint is that then?

As for the players cue dimensions they are pretty much about the norm for most players. My own cue is pretty much exactly the same too, well about a 1/4 oz heavier. Selby has a shorter backswing now so to keep his cue action more compact he wouldn't want a longer cue.

It was good to clear up though that Parris doesn't have a workshop full of young apprentices as was claimed by a few on here in the past. Even if some of what he said was total BS, but then he is hardly going to be totally truthful about his cues.

I think that is not matter how tall player is, he just need to have a length of cue what is comfortable for player

i understand that but what about saga and things like 888.com they need to advertise them which is still wrong

I never really saw it as a plug for Parris, probably because his cues are that well known that he doesn't really need to advertise. Also its not the first time his cues have been mentioned and the BBC showed a clip similar to that a few years back.

according to the BBC profile of Selby that ran during frame breaks at the masters, Selby is 6ft tall.

I thought that the length of your cue - or at least the point you hold the cue at - should be such that your forearm should be vertical from the elbow down to wrist at the point of impact. Isn't this the case?

that leaves a lot of margin or error. depends where you bridge in relation to the ball where you hold the butt etc etc
