Best Snooker Cues & Cue Tips ?

Hi All

1) I am thinking of buying a new snooker cue and i wondered what are the best cues ?

I have always bought Peradon in the past and I have been looking at the Peradon Prince model (£130) which looks ok. Has any member got any comments on this cue.
I have also noticed a few nice Lewis & Wilson cues priced around £120. Are these any good - i have been told they are made in the far east - would that affect quality?

2) What are the differences between Blue diamond and Elkmaster Tips. I have heard a lot of conflicting opinions from different people and I would like to know once and for all.

3) If Blue Diamond are the best then why do Peradon put Elkmaster on all their cues !? Wouldn't it make sense to put a tip costing 20pence more on £100+ cue ?

that's a bit like saying you'd like the best car but have been looking at mondeos for £1500....

don't mean to be harsh but there's a lot more to choose from than peradon and lewis&wilson.

no need to spend a fortune on a decent cue, but important to know the options in your price range and, more crucially, the differences in quality.

best tips by FAR are the wooldridge single layer tips, i would never use anything else....

As for cues there are a few makers to choose from, search the site for peoples vies and advise...

Your price range gives you a choice of the cheaper UK made cues and also you will find many good Thai made cues around which are very good and much better than the stuff that comes out of china.

Elk is a good tip to start with but buy a genuine one has some new cues tend to come with crap hard ones on them

Also try Mike single layer from his website you may even get a free Cue towel.
My customers found them very good(that’s when I had stock of them Mike?)

Bought the Super Tips from Mike Wooldridge's site and by george they are awesome. It was also the first time I put a new tip on my own cue so was a bit nervous playing with it but after 5 minutes I was getting the cueball to do anything. A sense that long awaited centuary any day now.

well i have nothing against mikes tips - i sell them and rate them and i know for a fact a number of professional players use them, but to be honest if you can make a 100+ break it has very little to do with the tips you use and a lot to do with practise and talent.

nah, it's the tip. anyone can make a hundred break if they fit one of these little beauties....

You willing to back that up with a money back guarantee then Mike?!!!!

Tips are all in the head as with nearly all things in snooker. I still say that a good Elk is as good a tip as you can find and fortunately I now have a box of very good quality elks, so very little wastage and a bargain at £13 for 50!

Not knocking anyone else's tips but why pay upwards of £5 for a single tip if you are an average club player when a 50p elk will suit most of you for months!

tips are not 'all in the head'.

fact - you cannot play with a bad tip.

although i agree that a player may focus his 'problems' on the tip, cue etc., when in reality the fault lies elsewhere.

as for prices. mine sell individually at £2.50, which is less than a pint in most places, and i know for certain that when i was playing regularly, i would happily have paid the price of a pint to get a decent tip straight away, rather than try 3,6, 10+ over a period of days/weeks.

maybe one day you will have the chance to try one of mine, and whilst they will never be as cheap as elks, you may actually prefer them...
