    To Oldgit's post above..

Challenge?.....me? I don't think I've had a game for about 6 weeks so the thought of ANY challenge scares me.

    To JasonOwens post....

I have used a cue I built myself for over 17 years, although I've given a good number of my own cues away over the years and certainly don't still own that same cue. Before that I used an old two piece cheap cue.

    Max....

I think what Bitter is getting at is that although a cue might have a makers name on it, it might not actually be made by THAT maker. It's a fairly common thing that a number of makers don't actually make ALL the cues they put their name to. The buying public might be surprised by this I know.

Bitter could be trying to make a different point, but I've got a feeling that's what he means. Maybe he'll clarify it.

      Hi Trevor,

      Thanks for your response.

I figured that that may be what Bitter was saying - however, as we were discussing the purchasing of a new cue through a personal choice cue-maker, I wasn't quite sure if that was the point he was making.

This is just an example of what a nice guy Trevor White is.........

In December last year I was talking to Trevor on the phone about 'what makes a good playing cue', fascinating conversation, its a wonder Trevor ever gets any work done when Nick and myself pester him on the phone all day......anyway, Trevor says to me 'Ill tell you what Mike, I'll send you my own cue and just use it as long as you want and then send it back, that cue is in my opinion a perfect player'.......!! Well, true to his word, a couple of days later Trevor sent me his cue and I have to agree, it is just a very VERY good cue. I have played with maple cues most of my life but after playing with Trevs cue I have now switched to ash.

Incidentally, I have a friend who is a top 50 snooker professional and when I was practising with Trevors cue he asked me about the cue so I handed it to him..........different spec to his cue but what absolutely blew him away was the silky smooth finish that Trevor gets on his cues. My mate uses a Parris Ultimate and the finish on that was nowhere near as smooth at Trevors cue.

I should start the Trevor White appreciation society shouldn't I!!

I still think it was be great viewing during an interval at The Crucible this year, a one frame shoot out between Trevor White v Mike Wooldridge with John Parris the referee!!

The best cue for feel I ever played with was a Hunt O'Byrne which Jim Donnelly got on play test. He let me play a few frames with it and I can assure you it was playing like a Stradivari violin.

It had the nicest balance of any cue I'd had played with up till then or since.

Pity they're out of business now.

funny you should mention a stradivari because sometimes i have a cue action like one of those blokes at the last night of the proms
            Craftsman custom made cue
            57 inches
            17 ounces
            9 mil Wooldridge original supertip
            ash shaft plain ebony butt

Sounds positively solid compared to mine. My action was once described as being like that of an epileptic chicken. (No offence intended to anyone with epilepsy).

Better put me as a vote for Trevor!
I'd love a copy of the first cue he made for for me if I had the cash!

I wouldn't use Tony Ions myself!
Misleading web sites and didn't answer my e-mails asking about the misleading web sites!
But I have seen cues of his that looked nice.

                          Hey Andrew

                          Peter fixed crack... no problem.

3 of the splices on my cue are perfect, 1 is too long though !

The most important part of a cue is how it PLAYS and it is beutiful.
