  • Stickiness on Cue Shaft

I really hate the stickiness on my cue shaft, I tried to remove the varnish on my cheap cue for the sake of it, it made it a bit better but not a lot. When my hands get a tiny bit sweaty it can make it hard to follow through without starting to hurt my bridge hand and slowly friction burn it.

I once tried someones cue that had no varnish on it at all I dont think, it glided through very smooth and gracefully you could feel the wood, not plasticy varnish, it completely solved the problem. I'm really looking to buy a new cue that has this quality, what is this attribute of a cue referred to, is there anything I should be looking for specifically.

Hello, your problem is very common in players. I would guess that your cue is a BCE/Riley cue. Is it?, I can guess your cue which you may think is very clever, but these BCE/Riley cues are flooded across the market, they are cheaply mass produced in China. See this post that I made saying why these cheap cues are so bad: http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...ad.php?t=11430
(it is post number two on this thread)
I'd advise to stay well away from Sports Shops/Clubs whatever when buying a cue. Buy a handmade cue from a cue maker, those are made 1 by one, no nasty varnish and you cue can be as good a the professionals.

I'd really advise to go to www.handmadecues.com, Great information all around the website which answer your questions better than I did!

Its Mike Wooldridge's website, he is a regualr poster on this forum, I'd also reccommend Trevor White, he is another regular poster here, username - trevs1.

Have a look at those website and you will be able get some good information.

Have a look at those cue pictures on his website, they look (and indeed play) about 100% better than cheap cues. Hand made cues need not be expensive, you can get a hand made cue for cheaper. Mike does change the price (he does price match) and design to suit you. Mike is a real cue expert, he is a genuine cue maker.

thanks yes I have already stumbled across his thread, looks a great site, except he says you can't go and meet him, so how am I going to be able to try out the cue? I wont know if I'm going to like it

I brought my cue a while ago, when I first discovered the game, I'm now half decent (that might b pushing it) can make little breaks of 30 or so quite regularly, not that much so I don't want to spend loads on a cue but enough so I know it will be my own fault I mess up for sure lol, also would like to use it for UK table 8 ball which I play at university as well

I think www.greenbaize.com sell Mike Wooldridge cues, you could ask Mike if anybody else with a Snooker table in their shop sells his cues.
