Rarest Old Cue

Ok, after much debate in over threads lets start this one up -
Llist what you consider to be the top 4 rarest antique billiards / snooker cues with what you estimate there value to be. (Forget the maces, players personal cues and marketry stuff)

Heres mine
1. Ye Olde ash 1st ed cue - £1200
2. Walter Lindrum picture badge cue - £1000
3. Madame Strebor cue - £600
4. EJ Riley Tombstone Horace Lindrum cue £150

I have pics of a Ye Olde ash 1st ed, a Strebor and a Horace Lindrum is anyone wants to see them.

Well, Jason, I think (in my opinion) that the very rarest cues are the 'Fink' cues or the other elaborate inlaid cues. I played for a number of years with a mother of pearl in laid cue of which I have only ever seen two in my entire life. I sent pics of the cue to Andy Hunter and he told me that one had never come up for sale (in his knowlege) but if it did then he would expect bidding to be anything up to £1000 and that was about 5 years ago.

OOps......just re-read your original question and (silly me) you have said to ignore the elaborate inlaid cues..........

In that case I probably agree with you!! But I would have to add a maple Burwat Champion, I have only ever owned one of these.

Mr Oldgit, No marketry cues, just english billiards cues. I have owned a Maple Burwat and theres a guy on here who has one for sale so theres 3 around on 1 forum.

I choose the Ye olde ash first because there are only 3 I know of amongst the main collectors. The Walter Lindrum pic badge because ive never seen one or know of anyone that owns one. The Strebor because I had one last year and had so many people chasing me for it that it had to be rare, I know Andy Hunter has a few but dont think they are in decent condition. The last is the Horace Lindrum Riley tombstone, I had one of these a few years back and of all the top guys around no one had ever seen one or knew it existed. This one was signed by Horace on the shaft and is with Graham Tilley right now as far as I know.

its hard to disagree with your list jason. i have a cox and yemen stevenson 802 break cue. i know of only 2 others, dave smith and gordon radford own the others. anybody else got one?

Is the cue that Steve Davis has played with all his career a 1st edition or 2nd edition Ye Old Ashe?

I know that the 1st edition was famous for having a 'red' look to the ash as it was very special old ash that Burroughs & Watts had sourced. Also was the butt of the 1st edition made from black ebony and the butt of the 2nd edition made from Macassor Ebony? Whenever I see Steve Davis cue I am certain that the butt of his cue is black........?

I'd love to see some pics of a genuine 1st edition.......

steve's cue is definetly a first edition. that puts it at jason's valuation of £1200 but the sky's the limit if that one ever came on the market! anyway forget about all the above cue's. the rarest one of the lot is the one that both olgit and myself are looking for. they call it the magic wand cue!

great pics mate, apprently steve davis cue had thw same colour ash they have today not a redish color but looks to have an ebony butt.

maybe it was a hybrid? or unique?

And it has a Riley logo on it? How did it get on there? Did he have Riley put it on, is there varnish over it?

It will have been put on for sponsorship, it will be a vinyl probably, he uses a parris ambassador now i think.

ye olde ash 1st edition is the rarest cue i think, others may disagree....

yup i agree witht that, steve is back with his ye olde ash now but had it turned into 3/4 by parris because a splice had to be mended.
