I totally agree with Trevor here... I have never noticed the grain on the shaft (chevrons or otherwise) when sighting a shot.

I hold the cue with my fingertips on the flat of the butt. I have a cue on order with Trevor at the moment (is it nearly ready Trevor? ) and have not asked him to arrange chevrons or grain to suit as it is completely irrelevant to my game!

i always hold the flat at 90 degrees clockwise, then sight down the grain of the ash.
i really like the grain pattern of this cue, from mastercraft cues custom page.
i like the chevrons to be nice and even. i haven't seen better ash than that.

Those examples on Mastercrafts page look very good quality indeed. They really have improved the quality since I had my poorish effort.

I've not seen the Woods ones but I know people have been experimenting lately so it's only a matter of time.
