cue alterations

just wondering how alterations like reducing the original length of a cue or the tip affects the cue... like the balance maybe,im thinking of reduing of a 58inch cue to 56inches or less since my arms span is shorter and i end up holding the cue higher up on a standard 58 or 57....

im 5 feet 8.... always wanted a shorter cue cause i have to hold a reguler cue way up around the upper half of the butt,i also like the narrower tip but 8.5 to 9 is quite comfortable..
