  • Pearwood shaft

I saw an old pearwood one piece cue in my club. I would like to learn more about this wood.
How do you like the hit of a pearwood shaft compared to ash and maple?
Do they come this dark or do they darken with age?
Why is it no longer used commonly?

I don't think many cue makers like to work with it Trev will know better than me.

I think Dragon cues still use it.

I have listed on ebay an old Thurstons hand spliced cue which has a gorgeous pear shaft. Its a dark warm colour and is as smooth as a babies ass. Looks brilliant against jet black ebony splices.

Yes, I think pearwood and ebony looks really nice together. I have never seen a new piece of pearwood so I do nto know if they change color over time. It is really smooth the one I saw.

I think the pearwood looks like maple, but plays like ash
