    let me clarify that statement:

    i prefer ash over maple. by a long way...

    however, there are people who will prefer maple.

    it's a subjective matter and as i say in all the advice sections of my website, everything comes down to your own personal feelings cos you MUST be mentally happy with your cue.

    but yeah, i reckon ash is better....

        I heard a long time ago that one difference between ash and maple is that when ash bends it is easier to correct than maple, is this true are just another club myth?

          I prefer ash. I have an ash cue now but there is one thing that disturbs me and that is the darkness of the wood. The wood is very dark and I DON,T LIKE IT! If I'm going to order a cue from you (Mike) I really want you to do a light ash cue. The darkness of the cue disturbs me mentally!

            Try bleaching it, that should lighten it up.

              I have taken some large bends out of Ash cues, but I must admit I am terrible at getting Maple straight.

              It could be just my technique but I agree..

                Other than hanging the cue, what other method do you use to straight a cue?
                Thank you.

                  It depends on the bend, however steam and heat can be applied to make the wood more plyable and i use this technique when i need to repair a bad bend. You must be careful though and it is not something that should be done without experience. When trying to get a bend out of a cue you usually need to slightly over bend it as the cue would normally move a bit after you straighten it. I have found that maple is more prone to move than ash. i think this is why cue makers prefer to use ash, Less waste.

                    speaking for myself, there is one reason and one reason alone why i prefer ash - i think it's better to play with.
