  • I think I have heard of one Finnish maker but as you say, cannot remember a name.
Have you done US Pool cues as well? I assume that game is probably more popular or is it that Russian game with the big heavy balls?
I vaguely remember a ferrule tool for sale on here sometime ago, you never know someone may have one lying around
    Keep the photos coming
    cheers

    • Yes American Pool is very popular here, lots of good players here too. I used to play that a lot too, but don't think i would make a cue for US Pool any time soon.
I shall post more pictures and with better quality, as soon as i get a decent camera.
      cheers

        • Just got this off ebay for a stopgap until i decide what i want next.

Word of warning to whomever may decide you want one of these. They come unfinished. So you'll either have to take it to a cue doctor or have a go yourself. I've bought some brown Antiquax Wax. Now i know some of you will be thinking why on god's earth didn't i buy raw linseed oil. Or just the clear Antiquax Wax.

Well.... The shaft on this cue is very light in colour. Far lighter than what the picture shows. And i like a darker more aged looking shaft. So i'll be ageing it with this. I've used this on other projects before and it aged the wood quite well. So we'll see how it goes when it arrives.

Ah well, actually I agree with PJ that joint protectors won't help much, because if you can drop a cue just out of the case then you can drop it just after removing protectors. But I was wondering about how vulnerable the thin wood wall around the joint would be on a 2 pce, if it's dropped or cops a knock near the joint in general play, hitting a post, table etc. I'm tempted to try
it anyway though as I have a nice little project for it.

            • I've currently got 3 cues, although one is off to pastures new shortly.

This is my old Willie Smith cue......rescued from a club in North Wales many years ago & fixed up.

This is my Rob Osbourne green plate, lovely cue with tulipwood lower splices....

And this is my current playing cue, a Parris Regal cue.

                      • Splices on that fourth cue look incredibly long for a one piece.

all i can say is over the last few years, none of my cues with 'secret' joints, from airlock through airtwist and now the new F1 have suffered the damage you are concerned about.

the walls are not that thin anyway, and particularly now with the added features of F1 plus very tight tolerance with fitting, they are absolutely solid, so i do not consider it to be an issue.

                                keep the faith...
