Has anyone used macassar ebony in cuemaking? I read that Mike Wooldridge and Keith Auld are in to guitars and I saw some spectacular guitars made in macassar ebony!

Discovered that this wood is used in some american pool cues, but I wasn't impressed with how they looked. Here's a good example of the wood.

Stunning cue, I was right it does look good . Is macassar lighter than standard ebony? I found that it is used in making drum kits too, also look very good.

Sounds interesting, I want to get something a bit special when I get a snooker cue so trying to find something a wee bit special.

Yeah saw that birch on two cues you had very nice!
My cue is more stripy than those pics of mike's.

I'm having camera trouble the pics are on the camera not the computer and I can't find the lead to connect them. I know someone with the same lead I'll try and borrow it tomorrow.

I've sent LWB a pic of your cue Watford, so he is aware of how it looks now.

The birch ADR mentioned is often called Masur birch, it's more readily available than many might think.

Brilliant cue, what's the lower splice? Is it a maple shaft? I've got some great ideas for when I eventually order one. I think I'd have to be the worst person to ever build a cue for now, I've looked at so many examples of wood! Still waiting for my 8ball cue to get here (patiently) looking forward to that. If I play snooker soon it will be with my grandad's Camkin I think, not sure it's dead straight though. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost to straighten it?

here we know it as arctic birch - we tried hard to find it and had to fly it from finland!
