What secrets? If a cue butt is firm, thick enough to suit your grip, has a feel you happy with, long enough for you and produces a satisfactory balance and weight then it makes no difference playing wise if it is diamond encrusted with fancy ivory inlays in wood from Noahs ark, or made entirely of laminated second hand plastic chopsticks.

Any cuemaker will tell you that.
