  • "Super" cue tips: are they all they claim to be?

Here are statements promoting two new 'Super" tips (they cost £10 each!)

Are there any members out there who have used them and can vouch for them?

    Quotes:

"Genuine Talisman professional snooker / pool cue tips as used by ronnie o' sullivan

This tip is one of the best tips money can buy, and they are used by many of the worlds top professionals in both pool and snooker. The tip is made from 11 layers of finest pigskin and will change your game for the better, once you have tried one there is no going back!! Unlike the cheaper tips, these can last for years with almost no mushrooming and a very consistent contact. This tip is designed for snooker so the layers do not seperate like the larger ones."

    and..

    "KAMUI™ tips

The KAMUI™ tip consists of 100% pig skin. During the unique manufacturing process, kamui utilize a lower chemical content to maintain a higher porosity in the pig skin.

    KAMUI™ delivers high porosity.
More Chalk. Kamui™ tips hold more chalk because it has a higher porosity than competitors. More chalk returns less miss cues.
Less Mushroom . A cue tip with less porosity lacks the ability to “come back” to its original shape and will harden quickly. Because Kamui™ is 100% pigskin some mushrooming is inevitable, but the process allows the tip to return to normal shape after play, providing longevity."

As they are Talisman, I'd rather not play with a brick on my cue!

Oh, the price is ridiculous. Why charge so much!

Did you get that from the Mastercraft site by any chance?

I've not tried the Kamui but interestingly my friend is getting his cue back from Mastercraft after having some work done on it and they are going to fit a kamui tip to it. I'll probably have a few shots and have a good look at it and then give my unbiased verdict on the two tips. I've used a talisman before so it will be interesting to see if they differ at all.

Yes it came from Mastercraft site. If you have a Talisman tip let's hear what you think of it. Also, are Mastercraft a decent cuemaker? Their prices are very reasonable.

I think the Black Prince costs £125 -so that was a bargain! Do you make/sell cues?

Do Mastercraft make decent cues? I'm looking for a new one...

Oh - I forgot to add I read your thread ADR147, thanks for that.

I was down at Mastercraft with my mate to pick up his cue and noticed that they had about 20 or so cues on display to buy. There were a couple with your name on Andrew, what's going on there then?

Mostly I wasn't that impressed with what they had to offer, the shafts were a bit too flexible really and the finish on some was not what I like. The cues look nice and I guess they will suit most club players looking for a decent cue to play with.

as for my mates cue, they did a very good repair job, though they forgot to put on the kamui tip. They fitted there and then though. My mate liked the tip and I had a few shots with it but its difficult to guage a tip when you aren't used to the cue either.
It seemed similar to a Talisman, probably slightly softer. All in all though there didn't appear to be much difference. At least with a talisman you have a choice of hardness, as far as I know Kamui tips only have 1 grade.

I found Talisman a bit hard really. I tried them when I fell out with Blue Diamonds last year. I've been following Trevs advice lately: Me and some mates have bought a big box of elks. You can stick your nail in the tip to find one that you like, there will be quite a bit of variation in a box but I've got mates who'd play with half a marble and I like it medium soft so happy days.

ADR147?, or anyone else ever sell a 'mixed bag' of tips? Say 2-3 of each of the most popular tips? That way we can compare for ourselves...
