Depends on what cue you are refering to? Alex had a few in his career!

Oh yeah, sorry. I was basically told he used pretty heavy cues, so I was just wondering roughly what weight he would have gone for, or gone for at various stages of his career.

alex had a burwat champion when he first won the world champs
        around 17-18 onz

unfortunately for him some baggage handler broke it, so he went on to other cues messing with the weights in them to try to replicate the cue he had.
whch he didnt get to my knowledge, just perserviered with others

I'm curious what Higgins used then for his 1982 championship run, including the classic 69 break against Jimmy White.

he had a 3/4 cue or a two piece as he is seen against doug mountjoy unscrewing his cue to screw on an extention

I spoke to Bob Ackers - the cue doctor from leeds -a number of years ago. He used to work on Alex's cues in the mid to late 80's. He told me Alex's cue specification preferences were, Length-56inches, Weight-17oz & the shaft of the cue to be very stiff.

Not sure wether it was the 82 world championship or 83 Uk , but somewhere around that time he had a butt section of one cue fitted to the tip section of another in a pretty good fit .I know he liked a thick butt section and had layers of tape at one point on the back of the cue to thicken up the grip area ,which would make sense really because if you watch old footage of him playing he had a very light grip often playing with just the first finger and thumb lightly holding the cue .Like in a golf putter ,thicker grips take the tension out the hands .
