    Hi all.

Just wanted to get some advice from experienced snooker players about a new cue. I'm relatively new to snooker but i've played my fair share - but i'm starting to get serious and want to try and improve my game. So i'm after a new cue. I've looked at several and i quite like the look of some peradon cues, and just wondered what people's opinions on them were? I'm not wanting to spend loads as i'm still relatively inexperienced, but i've seen some available for just shy of £100 (a peradon balmoral etc). any thoughts?

I think you could do better.
£100 for a machine spliced cue is expensive these days.

The cheapest i've seen is £76 at the moment. More than anything i wondered what experience, if any, people had of peradons? Although to be honest at the level my game is at the moment i don't think that the standard of cue would make a lot of difference - it's just that my local club's cues are pretty poor!

i agree - £100 for a machined cue from peradon is a lot - should do better from somebody on ehere with that budget try bitter or greenbaize.

Take my advice, dont get a Peradon.I was the same as you, I bought the Ascot 3/4 and loved it a for a few weeks, then it got sticky as hell, and I even damp+buffed it so it wasnt my fault. I eventually snapped it with frustration after one game, knowing that I had a brand new handmade cue to come home to.

I mean you could buy one, strip it and refinish it, I just couldnt be bothered lol. So a waste of about 70 quid in the end.

Yes, my friend has an Edwardian, compared to my North West, its so sticky and horrible to hold..but..Peradons do have some nice stiff shafts. My friends one is a superb example on the chevrons, there must be about 10 arrows. Its a shame it plays like a spade!

                    Hi Andrew.

Yes price of Thai made cues has increased a lot of late.
Then you add fuel surcharge and import tax.

So both omin and Unique ain't cheap to bring in anymore.

I think I am going to focus on just UK made cues, from now on, hence we have made a few new designs.

It's a shame given the quality of them, so my current stock of Thai may well be my last.
Then again I said that before so who knows?

But has I am getting on in age the hassle gets to much these days.
Cues are more hassle than other products we sell.

Table Irons never give me this much hassle.

I'm slowly working my way through them, cheers! has anyone on here ever heard of or used www.matchplay-cues.com ? Also, for a relative beginner, does rosewood/hand spliced make too much difference? Bearing in mind if i begin to develop as a player after a year or so i'd consider spending far more on a cue?

Rosewood doesnt make any difference to anything. Its just a different bit of wood.

Go with your instincts. Are you bothered about it being fancy? or playing well..

I know which one Id prefer.
