I think the point is, the people buying the cues want to know whether they have been built in the UK or not. It's east to say one thing or another about whether there's a great difference in quality between UK or otherwise, but nobody would rather something built elsewhere.
If the cue makers import almost completely made cues then finish them it's because they make more money doing that which is understandable. But there are two sides to the story and if the consumer is paying good money for something the cue maker has got at a fraction of the price from making it himself it means that it's not as fair a trade for us buyers.
Not hard to ask whether a cue was made in the UK.
On a similar note, if I buy a John parris, Trevor White, or Mike Wooldridge cue it has their name on it, so I expect that they have built it. We've all heard that's not always the case with Parris cues. Again you're paying for something you may think is built by one person but in fact isn't.
