  • Some help with a new cue please !!

    Hi
    Newbie,
I am going to buy myself a new cue for playing 8 ball pool, Finding it hard to decide which company ect to chose from.

    I have a budget of £100 - £125 ( £125 is really my maximum !! )

I think I have narrowed it down to :

    Peradon Venom :

    http://www.newitts.com/product/IT017...l_Pool_Cue.htm

Seems to be a nice cue , good price..

    OR

A craftsman classic cue , one of there handspilced ones

    OR

A cue from welsh pool trading, again one of their handspliced cues.
    Maybe this one :

    Anyone got any other sugestions?
Anyone used any of these cues?

    Thanks in advance!

Dont get a Peradon. Youll find the varnish will make you stickier than a russian jacuzzi.

      Thanks for the reply,
Would that be the only reason not to get a peradon? Could I take the varnish off?

If its solely for English pool then look what www.maximumbreak.com have on offer. Doubt you'll find better than the half price mastercaft cues they have at 1/2 price.

Well one very important thing here is the specifications of the cue's, the peradon cue and the welsh cue are quite different.

The Peradon is only 55 inches long, which is quite short, but the spec is for pool. The welsh cue is more for snooker I think.

The unlucky thing is you budget only just falls short of the mastercue and craftsman's british made cues.

I'd say have a think about the spec.

1/2 price of a half price cue is 1/4?

the perdon venom is awful, i had one as a trade in recently. very nasty finish and an awful taper.

however the guy who bought it loved it and plays well with it so each to their own.

i worked in cue sales for years, in all honesty you could spend £300 on a cue and it wont necessarily suit you, i know players who play with cues they got free with rileys membership (rrp £15) and they play really well with them. i myself have a £60 James Howard cue which i got solely because it had an 8.5mm tip on, i personally prefer small tips for english 8-ball.

I would say for your budget your best off actually trying some cues!
Craftsman near Leeds loads to try Peradons at Thurstons Liverpool, Birmingham and London.
                            The Snooker shop in Manc.
                            Where abouts do you live?
But that Mastercraft offer looks good!
