B & W billiards cues are pretty much all based on old cue designs!

This is a very difficult area to persue because so many people are trying to earn a living
out of snooker. You have people, like ADR147, who make a living out of buying and selling cues on the internet, but I assume that ADR147 has over the years, bought cues from various makers and has honed his ability to select what is good and what isn't. Then you have the cuemakers themselves, once again, all trying to earn a living, all checking out what everyone else is doing. It is very difficult these days because there are so many people trying to earn a living out of what used to be a limited market, being the UK and Europe. Suddenly the world has changed; and for the UK maker, the UK market isn't worth a light; all the money and worthwhile cue orders are in the Orient. I spoke to Tony Glover the other day and asked if he could make a custom cue plate for me for an overseas customer and during the conversation we said that each of us had 20 cues going out to China that Monday, and for both of us the UK market was flat. Whichever way you look at it, all of us are capable of copying anyone or any cue from present time to antique, there's no big deal in making cues, although to the novice this may seem strange, the old cues were made exactly the same as cues are today except that the glues and wood used are better. My suggestion to you is that you look around, see what you like, and stick with that. Don't get involved with paying silly money for a name, look round and find something you like!!!!!!!!!!www.cuemaker.co.uk

I gather he's a world class cuemaker - as a cuemaker I'm sure Trevor would consider himself an originator rather than an imitator - if there is one thing that we cue makers hate, is being compared to anyone else, we all feel we're artists, and each cue we make come out of our head, imagination and labour. We believe we produce originals every time we make a cue - even if we make a copy - if that makes sense - if someone said about me 'especially for copies' it would would really **** me off - and I think Trev might feel the samewww.cuemaker.co.uk

I was talking about tony ions not trevor...... trevor better be a world class cue maker he is making one for me now!!
I agree with a lot of what you have said there keith in as much as, yes i have a skill that has been honed over many years of dealing in cues for selecting good ones. and yes i do it to make money (don't we all and what is wrong with that?) and also i would agree that in the end a cue is a cue, if you pay for a name you are doing just that.
but as for tony ions he is the best cue faker in the world and he takes pride in the fact that only a few people can tell the difference between his copies and the originals, the ye olde ash badges he is producing of late are so good i would need to ask tony myself if its genuine and i have had the same conversation with andy hunter and he aswell says they are perfect, on the celluliod, everything. tony's cues in general are good also but as a faker he is in a class of his own, would it pi55 him off for me to say that, no it wouldn't. and maybe unlike yourself i am in a position to ask him first? PM me and i will forward you his number and you can ring him and ask.
as for trevor and mike i don't think they consider themselves as artists but as craftsman, they build cues, and they do it very well. as trevor has said to me far too many times "its what i do" both of them are very down to earth and aware of their various talents and neither would look at what they do as art, its a craft, employing skills that are hard learnt to a level that will match the best avaliable. its not a mystical thing. In the end they build cues and NOBODY does it better.
