I thought Mahogany at first as theres probably far more old cues around made with that but one quick look at the samples at that site and one of padauk seemed closer. Wood recognition can be an art in itself. Hope you find out not knowing can drive you mad

It's hard to tell from the photo. It seems like stained maple to me.
Purpleheart is actually purple in colour. Bloodwood is really blood red.
Surf the web with key words "exotic wood" to locate some of the wood suppliers and view the photos they provided.

my first guess was, in fact, that it IS purpleheart (or a variety) cos the grain looks similar. but to be honest, it could be anything. except stained maple...
i used some old threshold wood to splice one of the very first cues i made, and it was exactly like the pic, so whatever that was, i reckon is what the cue is made out from.

There's probably rarer wood that'll fetch a higher price and exceptionally pretty pieces of burl that fetch a premium but generally used for cuemaking I doubt there's a more expensive wood used than Snakewood. Cues made from it(whole butt and splices)new can cost in excess of £600.
