I can't believe I ever said I was a 'famous' cue maker, if I did, I apologise to everyone on the forum, I've never been that conceited or big headed. I'm just another cuemaker trying to earn a living. I remember saying that until recently I hadn't seen cues from a number of cuemakers that had now come into my workshop for alteration, repair or straightening, also that I'd never heard of a number of cuemakers in the business and no doubt they'd never heard of me. I've never really gone out of my way to look at cues made by other cuemakers; I've always made cues my way and let others do the same, so copying designs and patterns or even old cues is an alien thing to me.
If you look at the post I've recently put to 'Steedee' you'll see the reasoning why #I won't pass this knowledge on to just anyone. I'm sure that I passed it on to Robert Osborne when I taught him so you should be able to get Robert to straighten your cues if you don't want me to do it
I apologise to anyone I may have offended with my threads on the forum - there was never any malice intended
I don't think you should worry keith...your posts are always written with care , courtesy and with respect so nothing to be sorry about.

Its a public forum where we all have an opinion thats what its all about to agree, dis-agree and learn, it wouldn't do for us all to be the same and agree with everything would lead to a dull forum.

I think its good we have good mix of people on here to represent different views and i appreciate all the cue makers who take the time to post things, as i'm sure we all do.

But you can't please all of the people all of the time .....so keep up the good work and keep posting...

Since most cue makers do not start a thread to advertsie here when their web site is up, I went to visit your site out of curiosity. When I first visited, I read you said that you have worked on Stephen Hendry's cue.

When I went to your site today, that bit of info is no where to be found. May be there was a typing error and was corrected then?

I hope I was not misquoting you about you saying if you had a cue ready for Jimmy White at the time he was looking for a cue, then you, rather than Will Hunt, would have been really famous.

I am sorry if I thought a "master cue maker who makes the best cue" is the same as a "famous" cue maker. May be they do not mean the same thing and I misunderstood.

You said there were three well known cue makers at the time you started your shop, they were John Parris, Hunt, and yourself. Since you put your name next to two of the best known cue makers of our time, I just somehow got the impression you felt that you were "famous." You know, this is what you get when you keep putting your name along side those who are famous, such as Robert Osbourn, Jimmy White, Tony Moe, Will Hunt, John Parris and so on. I am sorry if I misquoted you. Please accept my apology.

So I think I understand now that you meant to say you were not famous, although you are a master cue maker, who have been making the best cue for 30 years. Please correct me if this is also not true.

I have to make it very clear that i do not have a problem you do not want to share your "secret" for whatever reason. I totally respect that. I personally cannot care less if you tell me how to straighten a cue. I can straighten my own cue and I have no problem with that. It is not really rocket science. Most decent cue makers or even cue repair persons can do that. I also do nto really mind if my cue is a little bend. It does not bother me at all.

If you like to keep your secret, you did not even have to start this thread. My confusion comes from the fact the you offered to help people with questions and then you came on here saying you would not tell them how to do it but you can do it for them for 30 or 50 pounds. You said the reason was because you did not want them to mess it up but you can use this reason to just about anything to do with cues.

There are people who can damage their cues just doing their tips. So, one can always say one is willing to help anyone with question but one is not willing to discuss how to do a tip in public because there is a risk someone might read it and ruin one's cue. In which case, what info were you prepare to pass on when you said you were willing to help all those with questions on cues?

You do not need to apologize. i agree that you are always very polite when you come to the forum, and I was not trying to get you to apologize. I was just really confused and wanted to hear what you have to say, that is all.

I hope you dont mind me being so blunt, I hope you do not think I am being rude, because I am not trying to be--just saying it exactly how I see it.

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my post.

                          no.

'Funny' how when Coach Del joined the forum and was "getting used" to the computer malarky that nobody passed on any remarks when i linked to his new site in my signature, but when i do it for Keiths site (for the same reason as i did with Dels for a few weeks) someone has picked up on it.

kind offer Keith, but one which id have to say thanks but no thanks.

If in future i buy a new cue id ccertainly consider yours. probably opt for one of yours too, but id certainly pay my way. any little help ive been by way of PM regarding your site, or by adding a link to my signature was done in appreciation of the effort you have put in to give advice on this forum and the polite manner in which youve done so. i like many others have enjoyed and found your posts helpful and have concentrated on the positive things ive read from you. Once again, best of luck.

Hi Andrew - I noticed you were on line - I've just given yours and Martin's name to a customer I've just straightened 2 cues for - 1 is a Burwat Champion that was originally given as a presentation to his father or Grandfather by Burrough and Watts and the other is a very old Ash/ebony cue with a birdseye maple splice and flared butt, stamped 15 1/2 ozs still in it's original state without a ferrule. I don't believe it ever had a plate on because the butt doesn't look like it's ever had any work done to it. I know that both you and Martin deal in antique cues and following the advice you gave my customer regarding the old Riley cues I've just straightened, I didn't go ahead and alter this antique cue which he wanted shortened and ferrulleduntil he got some kind of valuation from either you or Martin. His name is Dave Wheeler and he should be contacting either one of you soon
