  • What to do with not to put on my Tombstone

Bit of a dilema here, I've now got half a dozen or so cues and wont be adding to them as a collection I just intend keeping say three and buying and selling three to keep it an ongoing in use not a growing collection. I'm not really into old cues and I think i'll always prefer ash but to fill my new rack I decided I'd have one old classic in maple and decided on a Riley Tombstone. No perticular reason other than I like the badge really. However I dont want a cue no matter how good it's made or worth if I cant play with it thus the dilema, I like a 9mm tip as I feel most comfotable with one for snooker and for pool and the Tombstone is an 11 mm job in original condition with no ferrell (57.5" 17 oz handspliced maple to ebony) Not only that, but these old billiard cues have different tapers and the Tombstone quite a fat butt so regardless of tip size I have no idea how comfy with it I'll be.

As yet I have not seen it but for a photo but remain convinced 11 mm is not for me i've arranged fo the selller to take it to Keith Auld who has already worked on it by straightening it and depending on his and your opinions we'll sort out what to do with it.

So bearing in mind my wanting to as i do now pick up any of my cues and go play both snooker and pool with it and my preference for a 9mm and the 50-50 chance i suppose I'm gonna dislike the maple and thick butt what would you do? I'm thinking resize it to 9.5mm with a ferrel as i could live with that and should I not like it it'd still be sellable though not totally original.

Just sent Keith the money to pay the seller for it which he's kindly agreed to do and post his comments here when he has a looksee. you dont think altering an old cue will deminish it's value then?

I have a riley tombstone in maple as well.

It's way too light for me at 16Oz though.

I considered altering it at one time myself, but didn't have the heart to do it.

you will devalue it but they are not that valuable anyway.
